How Much Does a Golf Cart Weigh? A Type & Brand Comparison

When thinking about golf carts, we often think about what a golf cart can offer us. Easy transportation, a fun experience with family, and looking stylish wherever you go—to name but a few!

However, an important consideration many people don’t think about is golf cart weight. Why would this be important, you might ask? What are the different weights between brands? Let’s discuss these and more.

Why Does Golf Cart Weight Matter?

When purchasing a golf cart, it is important to know the weight (or at least have an idea about it). Knowing the golf cart’s weight helps us know how much it can tow and important weight limits.

What Adds to the Weight of a Golf Cart?

Now that we know the importance of weight—what can add weight to carts? Things that can add weight to golf carts include:

  • Batteries
  • Accessories
  • The type of cart

Dry Weight vs. Curb Weight

There are two types of weights, dry weight and curb weight:

1. Dry weight is the weight of the cart’s “bones.” This is the weight of the cart without the battery or any of its accessories.

2. Curb weight is the complete weight of the golf cart with all the accessories and batteries included.

What About Gas vs. Electric?

Batteries can add weight up to 400 pounds! The final weight can depend on how many batteries the golf cart has and the weight of each battery. For instance, a gas-powered golf cart can weigh less than a battery-powered cart. It all depends on the cart; however, in general, a gas-powered golf cart tends to weigh less.

Hold On the Accessories

While everyone wants to have the best golf cart they can buy, it is important to take into account the additional weight accessories can add to a cart. Adding a fun sound bar or cool tires is fun, but these items (and others) will add to your golf cart’s weight.

Now that we have discussed the basics of a golf cart’s weight, let’s talk more about the specifics. Specifics by golf cart brand, that is.
